Favorite Quote from Jo: “Women do not need help to pick up their kayak, load it onto their vehicle no matter how tall it is, strap on their kayak, and go paddle anywhere she may want to paddle, she just needs technique.”
Jo’s favorite boats to paddle: Tempest 165, Zephyr 155, Valley Avocet, P & H Cetus LV, her hot pink aka “Tuitti Fruitti” Liquidlogic Remix XP9, Wavesport Diesel 70 and Holo Holo Waterman C4 SUP board on which she loves to practice SUP YOGA.
Jo’s favorite places to paddle are: locally include the beautiful Dan and Smith Rivers, pristine Lake Brandt (3 miles from her home) and non-locally, Cape Lookout National Seashore, where her love of paddling really began, complete with wild horses.
Jo has been with GET:OUTDOORS since 2011 and has been paddling since 2007. She obtained her degree in Business Communications from UNCG and has certifications with the American Canoe Association as a Level 2 Coastal Kayak Instructor and Trip Leader, as well as Wilderness First Aid and CPR. Jo started the women’s programming; GET:OUTDOORS WOMEN ON THE WATER (GO WOW) in 2011 with the support and mentoring of Will Seeley, Owner/Manager. She has a passion for teaching women to “get outdoors” on the water in an encouraging, supportive environment. Jo grew up roaming her Great Grandfather’s (and namesake) land in Oxford, NC, and has always been happiest in the woods, on the water, or on her horse. She balances her love of the outdoors, nature writing and family, believing that nature holds the the key to our well being. She loves primitive camping and kayak fishing with her son and although her husband of 18 years does not paddle, he fully supports her outdoor endeavors.
